The Power of Story #5 - Connecticut Foster Care & Adoption

Posted on: February 11th, 2012

Imagine you are 7 years old. You were abandoned by your parents when you were 4. Your grandparents didn?t want you and neither did other relatives (though they took in your siblings). You entered foster care with extreme emotional needs due to the loss of your parents. You do play therapy and are adjusting well to a great foster family who has a foster child that you look to model your behavior after. They risked a lot with their own child, just a little older than you, to have you in their home. You are beginning to catch up emotionally and gaining confidence. You have a long way to go, but this home has been a huge gift to you. You don?t know where you?d be without them. Your heart aches, but you feel hope too.

This story describes a child currently in the Connecticut Foster Care System, but identifying characteristics were changed to protect the identity of the child.
